Please check with your travel agency or go on-line for best options to fly into or reach Merida (MID). There are non-stop flights to Merida from Mexico City (MEX), Houston (HOU), and Miami (MIA).

You can also fly to Cancun International Airport (CUN) then take a bus or a rental car to Merida (308 km or 192 miles) (4h30min ride by bus; 4h drive by car using the toll road).

University of Yucatan students will be at the CUN airport to assist ISVEE delegates with ground transportation connections Sunday, November 1st and Monday, November 2nd from 8.00am to 8.00pm.

If you are renting a car, all car rentals are at CUN airport. You can take the toll road (414 MXN pesos) one way to save time, and the non-toll road back to be able to go through all the villages and get a glimpse of what Mayan people and their villages are like.

Bus from Cancun International Airport (CUN) to Merida
If you are taking the bus to Merida, ask the students or the information booth for directions to the bus that goes to the downtown Cancun bus station. This bus costs 68 MXN pesos, leaves every half-hour and takes about 35 minutes between CUN airport and the downtown Cancun bus station. A this station, go to the ADO window to purchase a ticket for Merida. There are several classes of bus: (i) the super luxury “Platino” for 578 pesos; (ii) the luxury “GL” for 450 pesos; and (iii) first class for 364 pesos. The exchange rate is about 15 pesos to 1 USD.

There are about 20 buses going to Merida every day. You can visit this website for schedules. Select Cancun Q Roo as your origin (de dónde sales?) and Merida CAME as your final destination (a dónde vas?) …or call +52 (999) 920 44 44 for more information. Once you arrive in Merida, you will need to take a taxi from the bus station near the downtown area to your hotel (about 40-50 pesos; 10-15 minute ride). Some busses stop at the Hotel Fiesta Americana in Merida before their final stop at the downtown Merida bus station.

There is also a bus directly from CUN airport to the Fiesta Americana Hotel in Merida. It only operates once or twice a day. You can visit to check the schedule on your travel dates. Be sure to choose “Cancun Aeropuerto” and “Merida Fiesta Americana” as the “Origen” and “Destino”, respectively, with your exact date. The price is 616 MXN pesos. Travel time is 4h 30 min. You can reserve and purchase the tickets on that website. Alternatively, there is an ADO ticket booth in all three CUN airport terminals for ticket purchase. The bus circulates to all three airport terminals to pick up passengers.
